At the end of the year there are a lot of beach parties and one day I saw a lot of waste at the shore, and this inspired me to want to make a difference…
Be inspired by this interview session with #UPGSustainability Leader, Pablo Mingoti. Follow us through his journey of discovery and impact.
Full name, Country, Place of birth?
I am Pablo Mingoti from Brazil. I was born in the capital of Brazil, Brasília, but I grew up in Florianopolis, in the south of Brazil. Recently, I got my Italian citizenship, because my ancestors were born there. I’m currently learning the language as I hope to visit Italy and other Europe countries soon.
Background story and experience while growing up?
I’m a journalist and a law graduate. I’m doing an MBA. I work as a journalist in Dataprev, a public technology company in Brazil and I have worked in several institutions of Santa Catarina Government, a state in the south of Brazil, such as the Sustainable Economic Development department. In this work, I shared news about technology, environment, and job opportunities for the population. I wrote articles for an online tourism magazine, local newspapers and an international magazine based in London.
I have a father, mother, one brother and a dog I consider my sister. I grew up in a middle-class family and had everything I believed I needed.
My family played a major role in becoming who I am.
What SDG are you focused on?
I am a lover of Sustainable Tourism. Sustainable Tourism is a way to travel and discover a destination, we need to respect culture, environment and people, preserving local traditions and resources. Although my focus is sustainable tourism, I also work on several sustainable fronts, especially in relation to environmental protection, and climate change. I usually participate in beach cleaning and tree planting. My focus is SDG 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities.
Why and what event inspired you to choose this part?
I grew up in Florianópolis, a coastal city in the south of Brazil with intense contact with nature. If you don’t know this place, just search for images on Google and you will be enchanted. This city is visited by many tourists but I realized that during their stay, they use a lot of resources, like water, nature, produce garbage, then they go away.
What event defined your choice of SDG?
At the end of the year there are a lot of beach parties and one day I saw a lot of waste at the shore, and this inspired me to want to make a difference.
