My Friend Lola

My friend Lola, please heed this call.
For she is Nature, the warrior of life.
In the countryside you despise, she resides,
And her patience is running out with time.
She asks, ‘Where did the good old times go?’
And to you, Lola, I ask:
Don’t you yearn to be in the countryside where her spirit resides?

In the old good times, the warrior of life recalls
The mountains, where bubbles of water formed,
Then rivers ran down the valleys with ease,
Meandering, carving the rocks not so deeply.
The clear waters joined the ocean
And softly lapped the shores.
She grows gloomy and asks, ‘Where do the good old times go?’
And to you, Lola, I ask:
Don’t you yearn to be in the countryside where her spirit resides?

Lola, in the countryside, her spirit lies,
Where clear rivers flow freely into waterfalls.
At dawn, birds sing sweet melodies,
And flowers blossom in the presence of bees.
You can smell the sweetness of fresh leaves.
Oh, what beauty dwells with the warrior of life!
Still, she asks, where do the old good times go?
And to you, Lola, don’t you yearn to be
In the countryside where her spirit resides?

Lola, let us agree: no cutting trees for a fee.
No more dumping sites in open fields,
No more pollution of her soils and rivers,
No more smoke from burning plastics and honking cars.
Lola, she is losing her patience fast,
For she cannot stand the fading of her beauty.
Vengeful she becomes, making our world unbearably hot,
Bringing floods, creating deserts—will we survive her punishment, Lola?
Then we will ask, ‘Where did the good old times go?’
And you, Lola, will yearn to be
In the countryside where her spirit resides.

Lola, it is time to restore her beauty, right?
So that in our old age, we may feel
The last rays of the lovely sunset.
Our children will run down the hills, chasing butterflies.
And at the sight of monkeys in tall trees, dogs will bark.
Dusk will be welcomed slowly
By the sound of crickets and the croak of frogs.
As we behold the smiles of our loved ones,
We will tell the warrior of life:
The good old days are back.
And you, Lola, will be
In the countryside where her spirit resides.
