My name is Adamu Sulaiman Bawa, and I am proud to be a UPG Champion and an author who writes to inspire change. One of the most important books I have written is called:
“Girl Child Begging: A Ticking Bomb in Northern Nigeria.”
This book was born from what I saw around me, young girls on the streets, begging for food or money, instead of being in school or safe at home. It broke my heart and pushed me to take action. I decided to write this book to wake up our leaders, parents, and society.
A Silent Crisis
In Northern Nigeria, many girls are sent out to beg. Some are as young as five years old. They walk long distances, face danger, and often sleep in unsafe places. This is not just a problem, it is a ticking time bomb. If we don’t act now, these girls may become victims of abuse, early marriage, or even crime. We will lose a whole generation of mothers, leaders, and professionals.
Inside the Book
I shared real stories, facts, and solutions; calllng on governments, religious leaders, NGOs, and citizens to take urgent action to safeguard the rights and futures of these young girls.
I emphasized on the importance of:
- Expanding access to education for girls
- Raising awareness within communities
- Enforcing stronger laws to protect children from exploitation
Written for Everyone
One of the strengths of this book is its accessibility. It is written in simple English and can be understood by parents in rural villages as well as teachers, students, and policymakers. The clarity of the language ensures that the message resonates across all sections of the society.
As a UPG Champion, I am using this medium to amplify the voices of those who are too often ignored. I channel passion for service into advocacy, urging society not to turn away from the sight of a child begging, but instead to act decisively.
Why It Matters
“Girl Child Begging: A Ticking Bomb in Northern Nigeria” is not just a book, it is a call to conscience. It compels readers to reflect, engage, and commit to protecting vulnerable children. It reminds everyone that the responsibility to end this crisis rests with everyone.
